8th Five years after breaking Ruth’s record, the Yankees trade OF Roger Maris to the Cardinals for journeyman 3B Charlie Smith. In 2 days, the Yanks send Pedro Ramos the Phils for P Joe Verbanic.
12th By a 4–3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to review Wisconsin’s suit to prevent the Braves’ move to Atlanta, thereby retaining baseball’s “umbrella” under antitrust laws.
13th The Giants trade P Bob Priddy and OF Cap Peterson to the Senators for P Mike McCormick. McCormick will win the Cy Young in 1967.
14thThe Cards send Walt “no neck” Williams and P Don Dennis to the White Sox for C John Romano and P Lee White. Williams hit .330 in each of the past 2 seasons at Tulsa.
