st  Pitchers Tom Phoebus, Al Severinsen, and Fred Beene, and SS Enzo Hernandez, go from the Orioles to the Padres for pitchers Pat Dobson and Tom Dukes. Dobson will win 20 games for the Orioles in 1971.

The Red Sox trade 2B Mike Andrews and SS Luis Alvarado to the White Sox for veteran SS Luis Aparicio.

2nd  In a 6-player swap with the Pirates, the Royals acquire SS Fred Patek.  The Pirates pick up P Bob Johnson in the deal, but the righty will go just 17–16 in 3 years.

11th  The Braves Rico Carty, the leading active ML hitter at .322 lifetime, suffers a fractured knee and ligament damage in a Dominican League game. Carty will miss the entire 1971 season.

The Dodgers trade pitchers Ray Lamb (6-1) and Alan Foster (10-13) to the Indians for catcher Duke Sims.

14th  St. Louis OF Herman Hill drowns in the Caribbean, near Valencia, Venezuela, at age 25. He had been traded from the Twins on October 20th.

15th  The Reds trade former ace Jim Maloney to the Angels for Greg Garrett. Maloney was just 0-1 this year and will do no better in California.

21st  Jimmy Wynn of the Astros is injured during a domestic quarrel. He will undergo abdominal surgery for a stab wound but will suffer no long-term effects.

30thThe Giants trade popular second baseman Ron Hunt to the Expos for 1B Dave McDonald. Hunt will be a solid starter for 3 seasons in Montreal, while McDonald will be sold back to the Expos on March 25, 1971.
