2ndThe Dodgers agree to a two-year deal with free agent P Chris Capuano.

The Marlins agree to a three-year $27M deal with free agent P Heath Bell.

3rdThe Angels send C Jeff Mathis to the Blue Jays for P Brad Mills.

5thFormer Cubs great 3B Ron Santo is elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.

The Marlins agree to terms on a 6-year contract with free agent SS Jose Reyes worth an eye-popping $106M.

6thThe Twins send P Kevin Slowey to the Rockies for a player to be named. They also ink closer Matt Capps for one year at $4,750,000, but his best years are behind him.

The White Sox trade P Sergio Santos to the Blue Jays for Toronto’s top pitching prospect Nestor Molina, a surprise move to the Sox new manager Ventura.

The Mets send OF Angel Pagan, who reportedly had become unpopular in the clubhouse, to the Giants for OF Andres Torres and P Ramon Ramirez, two players who were key to the Giants in 2010. The team also reaches agreements with free agent pitchers Frank Francisco (1-4, 3.55, for Toronto), for $12 million for two years, and Jon Rauch, at $3.5 million for a year.

7thThe Marlins reach agreement on a four-year $58M deal with free agent P Mark Buehrle.

The Rockies send P Huston Street to the Padres for a player to be named and cash.

The Pirates agree to one-year deals with free agent P Erik Bedard and OF Nate McLouth.

Tim McCarver wins the Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence.

8thIn a surprise, the Angels agree to terms with free agent 1B Albert Pujols on a 10-year contract, and pitcher C.J. Wilson on a five-year deal. The Cardinals had upped their offer to the slugger, while the Marlins had offered him a 10-year $220 million contract. He’ll ink it on December 11. As compensation, the Cardinals will receive a minor leaguer who will turn out to be Michael Wacha.

The Dodgers agree to terms on a two-year contract with free agent P Aaron Harang. They also send P Dana Eveland to the Orioles for minor leaguers Jarret Martin (P) and Tyler Henson (OF).

The Brewers agree to terms on a one-year contract with free agent SS Alex Gonzalez.

The Astros make Mets’ minor league P Rhiner Cruz the top pick in baseball’s Rule 5 draft.

The Phillies sign free agent OF Laynce Nix to a two-year deal.

The Cubs obtain 3B Ian Stewart and P Casey Weathers from the Rockies for OF Tyler Colvin and IF D.J. LeMahieu.

9thThe Diamondbacks acquire pitchers Trevor Cahill and Craig Breslow from the Athletics for pitchers Jarrod Parker and Ryan Cook, and OF Collin Cowgill.

The Tigers reach an agreement with free agent P Octavio Dotel on a one-year contract. The Tigers will be Dotel’s record-tying 13thML team. The Tigers also send P Ryan Perry to the Nationals for P Collin Balester.

12thThe Brewers reach agreement on a deal with free agent 3B Aramis Ramirez.

The Phillies trade OF Ben Francisco to the Blue Jays in exchange for P Frank Galley.

The Rockies agree to a two-year deal with free agent C Ramon Hernandez.

The Brewers send 3B Casey McGehee to the Pirates for P Jose Veras. McGehee hit just .223 in Milwaukee last season.

The Rays obtain P Burke Badenhop from the Marlins for minor league C Jake Jefferies.

13thThe Red Sox reach agreement with free agent C Kelly Shoppach on a one-year contract.

The Phillies agree to a one-year deal with free agent P Dontrelle Willis, but he won’t make it out of spring training before being released.

14thThe Red Sox acquire P Mark Melancon from the Astros for IF Jed Lowrie and P Kyle Weiland. They also sign free agent IF Nick Punto to a two-year contract.

The Twins agree to terms with free agent OF Josh Willingham on a three-year contract worth $21M.

The Diamondbacks reach agreement on a one-year contract with free agent P Takashi Saito.

16thThe Rockies reach agreement on a three-year deal with free agent OF Michael Cuddyer. The deal is worth $31.5M.

The Cardinals reach agreement on a one-year contract with pitcher J.C. Romero.

The Indians obtain OF Aaron Cunningham from the Padres in exchange for minor league P Cory Burns.

17thThe Reds send three ML-ready prospects, Brad Boxberger, IF Yonder Alonso and C Yasmani Grandal plus star pitcher Edinson Volquez to the Padres for pitcher Mat Latos, 9-14 with a 3.47 ERA last season. Volquez will lead the Padres in K’s in 2012 while Latos will shine, going 14-4. The Havana-born Grandal, a former first-round pick, will blossom, going .297/.394/.469 but end the year by testing positive. His 50-game suspension will start in 2013.  The Reds keep another first-round catcher pick Devin Mesoraco over Grandal.

18thThe Orioles reach agreement on a one-year deal with free agent OF Endy Chavez.

19thThe Diamondbacks reach agreement on a two-year deal with free agent OF Jason Kubel.

21stThe Royals sign free agent P Jose Mijares to a one-year contract.

The Padres send C Luis Martinez to the Rangers for minor league P Ryan Kelly.

22ndThe Cardinals agree to a two-year $25M deal with free agent OF Carlos Beltran.

The Twins agree to a one-year deal with free agent vet Jason Marquis. Marquis pitched 11+ innings for Arizona this past year, after being traded from the Nationals where he was 8-5.

23rdThe Cubs send reliever Sean Marshall to the Reds for P Travis Wood, OF Dave Sappelt, and IF Ronald Torreyes. Marshall had a stellar 2.26 ERA in 75+ innings in 2010.

The Nationals obtain A’s ace Gio Gonzalez (16-12) and pitcher Robert Gilliam from the Athletics in exchange for C Derek Norris and pitchers A.J. Cole, Brad Peacock and Tommy Milone.

28thThe Red Sox obtain All-Star relief P Andrew Bailey and OF Ryan Sweeney from the Athletics for OF Josh Reddick, IF Miles Head and P Raul Alcantara.

30thThe Mariners sign free agent P George Sherrill to a one-year contract.

31stThe Padres acquire OF Carlos Quentin from the White Sox for minor league pitchers Simon Castro and Pedro Hernandez. Quentin hit 24 homers this past year with the Sox along with a .254/.340/.499 batting, OBP and slugging.  He also set a franchise record with 24 HBPs, and he will set a San Diego franchise record in 2012.
