2ndThe Padres obtain pitchers Drew Pomeranz. Jose Torres and a player to be named from the Athletics in exchange for Yonder Alonso and the vowel-challenged Marc Rzepszynski.

The Red Sox reach a 2-year $13M agreement with 32-year-old outfielder Chris Young, lately of the Yankees. Young has a .344 batting average at Fenway.  Last month New York GM Brian Cashman praised Young, saying, “I can’t throw enough bouquets his way. He’s a special guy and we’d like to have him back, but I have no idea.” The next day the Yanks trade for Aaron Hicks, giving them a crowded outfield.

The Cardinals send C Tony Cruz to the Royals for minor league IF Jose Martinez.

Cowgirl up! The Indians obtain OF Collin Cowgirl from the Angels for cash considerations.

The Mariners trade OF Mark Trumbo and P C.J. Riefenhauser to the Orioles for C Steve Clevenger. They also sign free agent P Justin De Fratus to a 1-year contract.

The Astros send C Hank Conger to the Rays for cash.

3rdThe Mariners sign free agent OF Nori Aoki to a 1-year deal.

4thThe Red Sox sign free agent P David Price to a 7-year contract worth $217M. Price has an opt-out clause after the 2018 season.

The Mariners send P Jose Ramirez to the Braves for a player to be named and cash.

The White Sox sign free agent C Dioner Navarro to a 1-year contract.

The Braves sign free agent IF Gordon Beckham to a 1-year deal.

45hThe Giants add an ace, signing Jeff Samardzija to a 5-year $90M deal. He will complement Madison Bumgarner. San Francisco went after Samardzija after losing out on signing Zack Greinke.

6thThe Tigers sign free agent P Mike Pelfrey to a 2-year contract. They also sign free agent C Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a 1-year deal.

Arizona signs Dodger ace Zack Greinke. With the Dodgers negotiating a five-year deal to have Greinke remain a Dodger, the Diamondbacks burst in and offered six-year deal worth $206.5M.

7thThe Red Sox send pitchers Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro to the Mariners for pitchers Carson Smith and lefty Roenis Elias (5-8 in 20 starts). Smith, 26, had a 2.31 ERA in 70 games in his first full-season in 2015. Miley has three years remaining on his $26.75M contract (counting his 2018 club option).

Kansas City inks pitcher Chris Young to a 2-year contract worth $11.5M.

8thThe Padres trade IF Jedd Gyorko and cash to the Cardinals for OF Jon Jay.

Colorado signs free agent pitchers Jason Motte and Chad Qualls to 2-year contracts.

In a big day for the Cubs, they sign veteran free agent P John Lackey to a 2-year $32M contract. They also sign free agent 2B Ben Zobrist to a 4-year contract for $56M. Zobrist reportedly turned down a 4-year $60M offer from the Mets. The Cubs then send all-star Starlin Castro to the Yankees for starter/reliever Adam Warren and a player to be named (Brendan Ryan).

The Blue Jays sign free agent P Mark Lowe to a 2-year deal.

The Diamondbacks acquire a second ace, picking up Shelby Miller from the Braves for Georgia native Dansby Swanson, the number 1 pick in the 2015 draft. They also surrender a good outfielder in Ender Inciarte and pitching prospect Aaron Blair. Miller will make just 4 starts before needing Tommy John surgery.

The Athletics trade P Evan Scribner to the Mariners for minor league P Trey Cochran-Gill.

9thThe Phillies sign free agent P David Hernandez to a 1-year contract.

The Brewers trade 1B Adam Lind to the Mariners for minor league hurlers Carlos Herrera, Daniel Missaki and Freddy Peralta.

The Mets trade veterean P Jon Niese to the Pirates for Pittsburgh native 2B Neil Walker. The move ends New York’s discussions with David Murphy.

The Yankees swap P Justin Wilson to the Tigers for pitching prospects Luis Cessa and Chad Green.

The Athletics trade 3B Brett Laurie to the White Sox for pitchers Zachary Erwin and J.B. Wendelken.

The Angels sign free agent OF Craig Gentry to a 1-year contract.

10thThe Royals sign free agent pitcher Joakim Soria to a 3-year contract.

The Pirates sign free agent P Juan Nicosia to a 1-year deal.

The Nationals send IF Yunel Escobar and cash to the Angels for pitchers Trevor Gott and Michael Brady.

The Braves trade C Christian Bethancourt to the Padres for P Casey Kelly and C Ricardo Rodriguez. Bethancourt, 24, was once the future catcher of the Braves, but disappointed.

11th   The Nationals sign free agent P Oliver Perez to a 2-year contract, and free agent P Shawn Kelley to a 3-year deal.

The Athletics sign free agent P Ryan Madson to a 3-year contract, and P John Axford to a 2-year deal.

The Mets sign free agent SS Asdrubal Cabrera to a 2-year contract. The defensive-challenged former all-star will receive $18M.  With Ruben Tejada re-signed to one-year $3M contract, it is suddenly crowded in the Mets’ infield.

12th   The Astros obtain pitchers Ken Giles and Jonathan Arauz from the Phillies in exchange for Brett Oberholtzer, Harold Arauz, former first-round pick Mark Appel, Thomas Eshelman and Vincent Veleaquez.

The Pirates send P Charlie Morton to the Phillies for minor league P David Whitehead.

14th   The Mariners sign free agent P Steve Cishek to a 2-year contract.

The Nationals sign free agent P Yusmeiro Petit to a 1-year deal.

15th   In a major move the Cubs sign free agent OF Jason Hayward, who spent last season with the Cardinals, to an 8-year contract worth $184 million. Hayward has two opt-out clauses—after the 2018 and the 2019 seasons.

16th   The White Sox shore up their infield acquiring two-time All-star Todd Frazier in a three-team deal with the Reds and Dodgers. Chicago sends top pitching prospect Frankie Montas to LA along with outfielder Trayce Thompson and 2B Micah Johnson. The Dodgers ship OF Scott Schebler and infielders Jose Peraza and Brandon Dixon to the Reds.  Frazier hit 35 homers this year, 4thin the NL, and won the All-star homerun derby. He has a $7.5 salary next year and can become a free agent after the 2017 season. His arrival means that the Sox will go with the newly acquired Brett Lawrie at second base.

San Francisco sign free agent P Johnny Cueto to a 6-year contract worth $130 million. He has an opt-out clause after the 2017 season.

The Rockies sign free agent 1B Mark Reynolds to a 1-year deal.

The Angels sign free agent OF Daniel Nava to a 1-year contract.

The Braves sign free agent catcher Tyler Flowers to a 2-year contract.

17thThe Indians sign free agent OF Rajai Davis to a 1-year contract.

The Rangers sign free agent OF Justin Ruggiano to a 1-year deal.

The Brewers send 1B Jason Rogers to the Pirates for OF Keonton and P Trey Supak.

18th   The Mariners send P Tyler Olson to the Dodgers for a player to be named or cash.

The Pirates sign free agent P Ryan Vogelsong to a 1-year contract.

Detroit signs free agent IF Mike Aviles to a 1-year deal.

21stThe Pirates obtain P Kyle Lobster from the Tigers for cash.

22nd  The Cardinals sign free agent P Mike Leake to a 5-year contract.

23rd   The Mets sign free agent OF Alejandro De Aza.

The Pirates sign free agent OF John Jaso to a 2-year contract.

28th   The Reds send reliever Aroldis Chapman to the Yankees in exchange for pitchers Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis, and infielders Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda. Chapman had first been traded to the Dodgers, but LA backed out of the deal because of off-field issues with the fireballer. Chapman will sign with the Yankees, then be slapped with a 40-game suspension.

The Athletics sign free agent P Henderson Alvarez to a 1-year contract.

30th   The Dodgers sign free agent P Scott Kazmir to a 3-year contract.
