7th  Jackie Jensen, out of baseball in 1960, signs a $40,000 deal to come back with the Red Sox.

9th  Willie Mays signs for $85,000, currently the biggest contract in ML baseball.

16th  Charlie Finley purchases the outstanding 48 percent of the Athletics stock to become their sole owner.

23rd  Peanuts Lowrey makes a clean sweep of the Florida baseball golf tournaments by shooting a 3-under 68 to win the Bill Cody Memorial Golf Tourney, named after the former St. Petersburg golf writer,  This comes on the heels of Peanuts’ win in the Miami players tourney.  Finishing tied for second with 71s are Phillies manager Gene Mauch and his coach Al Vincent. Roy Cullenbine wins the inactive players group with a 72, a stroke ahead of the new national seniors champ Jack Russell.
