9th  Former Negro Leagues P Satchel Paige is nominated for the Hall of Fame. On June 10th the Hall’s new Special Committee on the Negro Leagues will formally select Paige for induction.

10th  Los Angeles trades OF Andy Kosco to Milwaukee for P Al Downing. Downing will go on to win 20 games for the Dodgers in 1971.

17th  Boston’s Carl Yastrzemski signs what is believed to be the richest player contract in baseball history: 3 years for a total of $500,000.

20th  Ted Kluszewski hits a 500-foot 3-run single to lead the NL team to a 5–3 victory in the annual March of Dimes old-timers’ game.
