23rd A group calling itself The Baseball Club of Seattle announces that it will attempt to buy the Mariners for $100 million. Some $75 million of the money will come from Hiroshi Yamauchi, president of Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Osaka, Japan.
28th Tigers 1B Cecil Fielder avoids arbitration by agreeing to a $4.5 million contract, for the largest single–season deal in history.
31st The Pirates sign OF Barry Bonds to a one-year contract worth $4.7 million, the largest-ever one-year deal.
