The Athletics sign free agent OF Rajai Davis to a one-year deal.

The Diamondbacks trade OF Peter O’Brien to the Royals for P Sam Lewis.

5thThe Indians sign slugging free agent DH Edwin Incarnacion to a three-year contract.

6thThe Mariners trade OF Seth Smith to the Orioles for P Yovani Gallardo and cash.

The Royals trade OF Jarrod Dyson to the Mariners for P Nathan Karns.

10thThe Rays sign free agent OF Colby Rasmus to a one-year contract. Rasmus will get into just 37 games before announcing in mid July that he is taking a “leave of absence” from Major League Baseball. He won’t play again in 2017 and the Rays will make him a free agent in November.

11th    The Braves send OF Mallex Smith and P Shae Simmons to the Mariners in exchange for minor league pitchers Luiz Gohara and Thomas Burrows. The Mariners then send Smith, SS Carlos Vargas and P Ryan Yarbrough to the Rays for P Drew Smyly. Smyly will go on the DL, not start a game this season, and opt for Tommy John surgery in July.

13th    The Dodgers send 2B Micah Johnson to the Braves for a player to be named.

The Diamondbacks sign free agent C Chris Iannetta to a one-year deal.

17th    The Rockies sign free agent 2B Alexi Amarista to a one-year contract.

18th    The Athletics sign free agent 3B Trevor Plouffe to a one-year deal.

Tim Raines, Jeff Bagwell and Ivan Rodriguez are elected to the Hall of Fame.

The Rays trade OF Mike Mahtook to the Tigers for a player to be named (Drew Smith in April).

19th    The Reds send P Dan Strally to the Marlins in exchange for OF Isaiah White, and pitchers Austin Brice and Luis Castillo.

The Brewers sign free agent P Neftali Perez to a one-year contract.

The Phillies sign free agent OF Michael Saunders to a one-year deal.

The Rangers sign free agent P Tyson Ross to a one-year contract.

20th  The Athletics sign free agent P Santiago Casilla to a two-year contract.

The Padres sign free agent P Trevor Cahill to a one-year deal.

22ndTwo separate accidents in the Dominican Republic take the lives of two players. Andy Marte, 33, who spent parts of 7 seasons in the majors, is killed and Royals pitcher Yordany Ventura, is killed when his car hits a house. Ventura pitched in the 2014 and 2015 World Series and compiled a 38-31 record after coming up in September 2013.

23rd   The Rays trade third baseman Logan Forsythe to the Dodgers for P Jose De Leon, a 24-year-old righty viewed as one of the top prospects. They also sign free agent P Shawn Tolleson to a one-year contract. Forsythe will hit just .224 but have an OBP of .351.

24th    The Phillies send P Severino Gonzalez to the Marlins for a player to be named.

The Giants sign free agent C Nick Hundley to a one-year deal.

The Angels sign free agent 3B Luis Valbuena to a two-year contract.

25th    The Athletics send OF Brett Eisner to the Dodgers for 3B Jordan Tarsovich.

The Athletics sign free agent 3B Adam Rosales to a one-year contract.

26th    The Reds sign free agent P Scott Feldman to a one-year deal.

The Athletics trade P Dillon Overton to the Mariners for C Jason Goldstein.

The Cubs sign free agent starter Brett Anderson to a one-year contract. The vet will appear in just 6 games before being handed his release and he will finish the season with Toronto.

28thThe Rockies sign free agent P Greg Holland to a one-year deal.

30thBaseball commissioner Bob Manfred handed out a sweeping punishment of the Cardinals organization after an investigation into former Cards executive Chris Correa’s illegal hacking of the Astros emails and scouting database. St. Louis will lose their top two highest selections in the upcoming First Year player draft to the Astros. The picks include #56 in the second round and #75 in the Compensation round B. The Cards also have to pay the Astros $2M. Correa is placed on the permanently ineligible list. He is currently serving a 46-month sentence after he pled guilty to five counts of Unauthorized access of a Protected computer a year ago.

The Braves sign free agent C Kurt Suzuki to a one-year contract.

The Giants shut out the Braves, 4-0, with 5 hurlers holding Atlanta to one hit. Tyler Flowers’ 5th inning single off Jake Peavy is the Braves only safety.

The Red Sox defeat the Orioles, 6-2, as Mookie Betts hits 3 HRs and drives in 5 runs.

The Rockies pound out a 17-4 win over the Reds. Colorado’s 1.205 slugging percentage for the night is the highest for one game for any ML team since 1900. Blackmon and Arenado each have 2 of the Rox 7 homers.

At Safeco, the Padres and Mariners combine for 8 homers as the M’s sail to a 16-4 win. Seth Smith has a pair for Seattle.

At Anaheim, the Angels outslug the Tigers to win, 11-9.  C.J. Cron’s second homer of the game breaks a 9-9 tie in the 9th. The two teams combine for 9 round trippers.

The Braves trade P Jason Grilli and cash to the Blue Jays for P Sean Ratcliffe.
