5th The Blue Jays trade infielder Jonathan Diaz to the Yankees who send him to Wilkes-Barre.
6th The Cardinals edge the Marlins, 4-3. Ichiro Suzuki gets a pair of hits for Miami, giving him a total of 3,054 for his ML career. It is the most hits for any player born outside the US, surpassing the record previously held by Rod Carew.
Chris Sale strikes out 12, but gives up 4 runs in 7 innings as Boston loses to the Rays, 4-1. Wilson Ramos homers and drives in 3 runs. Sale is the first Sox pitcher to strike out 10 or more in 12 games before the All-star break, surpassing Pedro Martinez in 1999.
7th At Yankee Stadium, the Brewers smack the Bombers, 9-4, behind the hitting of Jesus Aguilar. He hits a CF grand slam in the 7th, off Tyler Clippard, after hitting a sac fly in the 6thand a 2-run homer in the 4th. Aaron Judge hits his 30thhomer to surpass Joe DiMaggio rookie record set in 1936. He also joins Mark McGwire as the only other rookie to reach 30 homers before the All-star break.
8th The Dodgers edge the Royals, 5-4, in 10 innings. KC reliever Scott Alexander enters the game in the 10th inning and proceeds to walk all 4 batters he faces, forcing in the winning run. It is only the second time in the expansion era (since 1961) that a team won with a walkout walk in which every batter in that final half inning walked. The Cubs beat the Giants that way on June 6, 1962, with Don Larsen issued the 4 free passes.
The Cardinals trim the Mets, 4-1, as rookie SS Paul DeJong goes 4-for-4 with a HR and 3 doubles. DeJong also had a homerun and double in the first game of the series, becoming the first player in the modern era to have 6 extra-base hits in his first 2 games against a one team.
9th At Coors Field the Rockies shut out the White Sox, 10-0. Rookie Kyle Freeland hurls 8-and-1/3 innings of hitless ball before surrendering a sharp single to Melky Cabrera for Chicago’s only safety. Pat Valaika has a 3-run homer and drives in 5 runs.
The Astros reach 60 wins by crushing the Blue Jays, 19-1. Carlos Correa has 2 homers and a career-high 5 RBI.
10th Yankees rookie OF Aaron Judge wins the All-star Home Run Derby, defeating Miguel Sano of the Twins in the final round. He becomes the first rookie to win the event outright. Rookie Wally Joyner shared the 1986 title with Darryl Strawberry.
11th The American League edges the National League, 2-1, in 10 innings on Robinson Cabo’s HR. in MLB’s All-Star Game. The homer earns Cano MVP honors for the game. Craig Kimbrel gets the win in relief. Yadier Molina homers for the lone NL run. For the first time in history, a defending champion takes no players to the All-star game: Joe Maddon selects reliever Wad Davis for the team.

13th The White Sox trade P Jose Quintana to the Cubs for 2B Bryant Flete, P Dylan Cease, blue chip OF Eloy Jimenez and 1B Matt Rose.

14thThe Rays edge the Angels, 2-1, in 10 innings. Albert Pujols hits a HR to account for LA’s only score. It is his 9th homer in his team’s first game after the All-Star break, extending his ML record.
The Red Sox designate Pablo Sandoval for assignment, eating $48M that remains on his $95M contract. The Panda missed nearly all of last season with shoulder surgery.
15th The Dodgers defeat the Marlins, 7-1, as Cody Bellinger hits for the cycle. He becomes the first rookie ever to hit 20 or more homers and also have a cycle in the same season.
The Yankees top the Red Sox, 4-1, in 16 innings and pull 3.5 games behind Boston. Matt Holliday hits a tying homer in the 9th. Off Craig Kimbrel. Chris Sale strikes out 13 in 7+ innings as he matches Luis Servino who goes 9 frames.
At Great American Ball Park, Anthony Rendon hits a grand slam, his second homer of the game, in the Nationals 7-run 7thas they take a 10-0 lead over the Reds. Cincy does not go quietly as they lose 10-7. Max Scherzer is the winner.
16th The Mets are pummeled by the Rockies, 13-4, who tally 7 runs off Steven Matz before he leaves with no outs in the 2nd. Charlie Blackmon hits a 2-run homer in the 7thwith the ball careening off the railing above the orange line. The umpires miss the call, though Mets CF Curtis Granderson does not. He jogs over and tosses the ball back to the infield. In the meantime Blackmon rounds the bases for an inside-the-park homer.
Jose Quintana strikes out 12 in his Cubs debut as the Cubs beat the Orioles, 8-0. He joins Matt Garza as the only pitcher to K 12 in a Cubs debut.
Phils rookie Nick Williams hits his first grand slam as the Quakers top the host Brewers, 5-2.
Nelson Cruz homers on a 3-0 pitch leading off the 10thas visiting Seattle beats the White Sox, 7-6.
The Athletics trade relievers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle to the Nationals for pitchers Blake Treinen and two prospects, Jesus Luzardo, and 3B Sheldon Neuse. Madson will lower his 2.06 ERA to 1.37.
17thIn Houston, Kyle Seager and Danny Valencia hit solo homers in the 10thinning off Tony Sipp as the Mariners win, 9-7, over the Astros.
18th The Braves sell P Chaz Roe to the Rays.
Chris Davis homers in a 6-run 1stinning and adds a grand slam in Baltimore’s 12-1 win over the visiting Rangers.

19th The White Sox send 3B Todd Frazier and Ps David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to the Yankees for pitchers Tyler Clippard and Ian Clarkin, and Blake Rutherford and Tito Polo.
The Rockies crush the Padres, 18-4, as Nolan Arenado goes 5-for-6, with 3 HRs and 7 RBIs.
The Dodgers defeat the White Sox, 9-1, for their 11th straight win. The victory gives them an ML record with wins in 44 consecutive games in which they held a lead of any size at any time. The previous record of 43 games was set by the Cubs in 1906.
20th At Great American Ball Park, the Diamondbacks beat the Reds, 12-2, pouring it on with 6 runs in the 9th. Jake Lamb, with a 3-run homer in the 1st, duplicates it in the 9thas Ariel Hernandez gives up all 6 runs.
At AT&T Park, the Padres rough up Madison Bumgarner and beat the Giants, 5-2. Bumgarner (0-4) is making his first start since sustaining an injury on a dirt bike he was riding on an off day in Colorado. He was out two month recuperating.

Don’t give up the apartment, Pat. The Rockies obtain P Pat Neshek from the Phillies in exchange for IF Jose Gomez, and hurlers J.D. Hammer and Alejandro Requena.
The Royals pound out 22 hits as they trounce the Tigers, 16-2. Eric Hosmer goes 5-for-6 for KC, including a grand slam, scores 5 runs and drives in 6.
The Marlins crush the Rangers, 22-10. The 32 runs are the second-most ever scored in an interleague game. The Marlins lost to Boston, 25-8, in 2003. Yu Darvish gives up a career high 10 runs in 3+ innings. A scout will point out that Darvish tipped his pitches by making a slight pause when throwing a fast ball. Darvish says that he can easily correct it, but he will get traded to the Dodgers before he can do it. In his first start for LA he will throw 7 hitless innings.
27th The Twins send C John Ryan Murphy to the Diamondbacks for P Gabriel Moya.

The Nationals clout 8 homeruns on their way to a 15-2 thrashing of the Brewers. Five of the homers come in the 3rd inning, including 4 in a row by Brian Goodwin, Wilmer Difo, Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman. It is the 8th time in ML history that a team has hit 4 straight HRs in a game. Michael Blazek, making the first start of his ML career, sets an all-time ML record by surrendering the 5 homers in the inning. The previous record of 4 had stood for 123 years.
28th Michael Wacha and three relievers shut out the Diamondbacks, 1-0. The D’Backs lose All-Star LHP Robbie Ray when he is hit in the head in the 2ndinning by line drive off the bat of the Cardinals Luke Voit. Manager Torey Lovello says Ray never lost consciousness despite the fact the ball is hit so hard that 3B Daniel Descalso catches it in foul territory for an out. Ray will miss a month.
In the Yankees, 6-1 win over the visiting Rays, rookie Clint Frazier hits a 3-run homer to raise his RBI total to 16 in his first 20 games. He joins Mantle, Selkirk, DiMaggio and Matsui as rookies with 16 or more RBIs in their first 20 games. Matsui had 20. Aaron Judge hits his 33rdand Brett Gardner hits a leadoff homer after hitting a walkoff homer yesterday. He is the first Yankee since Roberto Kelly in 1990 and Joe Gordon in 1940 to do that.

The Dodgers edge the Giants, 3-2, in 11 innings on PH Kyle Farmer’s 2-run double. Farmer becomes the first player in 22 years to get a walkout RBI in his first ML plate appearance. The last to accomplish the feat was Tomas Perez in 1995.
In their biggest 9th-inning rally in team history, the Blue Jays score 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th to edge the Angels, 11-10. Steve Pearce hits a walkout grand slam, which he did against the Athletics 3 days ago. It is the shortest span between walkout slams by any player in ML history. The previous shortest time was 100 days by Jim Presley in 1986. Pearce, Presley and Cy Williams (1926) are the only players to have hit a pair of walkout slams in the same season.
