5th  Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen, Jr., says he has a verbal commitment from a ML baseball club to move there if a stadium is ready by 1965. A $15 million stadium is approved the next day by the city Board of Aldermen.

9th  The ACLU charges the White Sox with violating the rights of P-writer Jim Brosnan.

15th  The Ronald Encyclopedia of Baseballis published. In it editor Joe Reichler names his all-time Cubs team (1876-1962) including: Bill Lange, Jimmy Ryan, Jimmy Sheckard, outfielders; Cap Anson, Johnny Evers, Ernie Banks, Stan Hack, infielders; Gabby Hartnett, C; Three Fingered Brown, Hippo Vaughn, pitchers. The manager is Frank Chance.

21stYou were adopted, too. Umpire Bill Haller calls his brother Tom out twice on strikes in a Giants spring training game. It is the only time Bill will call his brother out on strikes.

31stThe Senators send young prospect Lou Piniella to the Orioles for Buster Narum and cash.  Piniella will play briefly for the O’s before going to minors until the resurfacing with the Indians in 1968. The Seattle Pilots will draft him in 1969 and trade him to Kansas City where Sweet Lou, with his 5th team, finally wins Rookie of the Year honors.
