5th  The Reds send pitcher George Culver to the Cards for P Ray Washburn.

6th  Denny McLain and Mike Cuellar finish dead even in AL Cy Young Award voting.

12th  Minnesota’s Harmon Killebrew is voted AL MVP honors.

20th  San Francisco’s Willie McCovey edges Tom Seaver as NL MVP.

Joe Schultz is fired as manager of the Pilots.

      Cleveland trades OF Jose Cardenal to St. Louis for OF Vada Pinson. The vet Vada’s play was hampered this season by a broken leg.

24th  Dave Bristol is named manager of the Pilots.

25th  Kansas City OF Lou Piniella is voted AL Rookie of the Year.

      The Reds trade Alex Johnson and Chico Ruiz to the California Angels for pitchers Pedro Borbon, Jim McGlothlin and Vern Geishert. The talented but troubled Johnson, who hit over .300 in his 2 seasons with the Reds, will win the AL batting title in 1970. Borbon and McGlothlin will be valuable additions to the big Red Machine.

28th  Los Angeles 2B Ted Sizemore becomes the 7th Dodger to win NL Rookie of the Year honors.
