The Brewers name longtime coach Ron Roenicke as their new manager.

9thThe AL Gold Gloves are announced. Ichiro Suzuki wins his 10thstraight to tie the record for an AL OF. Other winners are P Mark Buehrle, SS Derek Jeter, 1B Mark Teixeira, 2B Robinson Cano, 3B Evan Longoria, outfielders Carl Crawford and Franklin Gutierrez, and C Joe Mauer.

The Dodgers ink veteran Mark Ellis to a 2-year contract worth $8.75M.

The Diamondbacks sign free agent IF Geoff Blum. Blum becomes the first of the 166 free agents to switch teams.

16thPhiladelphia’s Roy Halladay is the unanimous winner of the NL Cy Young Award. He becomes the fifth P to win the award in both leagues, having won in the AL with the Blue Jays in 2003.

The Marlins trade 2B Dan Uggla to the Braves for IF Omar Infante and P Mike Dunn in the first deal of the general managers’ meetings.

17thSan Diego’s Bud Black and Minnesota’s Ron Gardenhire are named Manager of the Year in the NL and AL, respectively. Cincinnati’s Dusty Baker and Texas’ Ron Washington were runners-up.

The Blue Jays acquire OF Rajai Davis from the Athletics for minor league pitchers Trystan Magnuson and Daniel Farquhar.

19thThe Tigers sign free agent P Joaquin Benoit to a three-year contract worth $16.5M. He will be setting up for closer Jose Valverde.

22ndThe Mets hire former Astros and Angels manager Terry Collins as their new skipper.

Cincinnati 1B Joey Votto is named NL Most Valuable Player. Albert Pujols, who won the award the two previous seasons, is runner-up for the 4thtime.

23rdTexas OF Josh Hamilton is the runaway winner of the AL Most Valuable Player award receiving 22 of the 28 first-place votes (358 points). Miguel Cabrera is runner-up in the voting with 262 points, followed by Robinson Cano with 229 points.

24thThe Pirates send P Zach Duke to the Diamondbacks for a player to be named later (RH Cesar Valdez). Among NL pitchers with 150+ innings, Duke ranked last in ERA, in opponents’ batting average, and OPS. He’ll win just 3 games in Arizona.

26thThe Dodgers sign free agent P Jon Garland to a contract.

28thThe Marlins agree to a one-year contract with free agent P Javier Vazquez.

30thThe Dodgers sign free agent IF Juan Uribe to a three-year contract worth $21M. They also sign free agent P Brian Tallet to a one-year deal.

The Dodgers send IF Ryan Theriot to the Cardinals for P Blake Hawksworth.

A judge in LA declares an impasse in the efforts to settle who owns the Dodgers. Frank and Jamie McCourt, who bought the team six years ago and are now engaged in a bitter divorce, could not agree to a settlement proposed by Superior Court judge Peter Lichtman. Lichtman reported to stalemate to Superior Court judge Scott Gordon, who had presided over a trial regarding the couples’ postnuptial marital agreement.

The Rockies reach agreement with Troy Tulowitzki to pay him an additional $132 million over seven seasons through 2020.

Vet rotation. The Giants sign shortstop Miguel Tejada for $6.5 million. Tejada will replace Edgar Rentaria, who was not offered a contract, and Juan Uribe, who signed with the Dodgers.
