1st  The Blue Jays send 1B Adam Lind to the Brewers in exchange for P Marco Estrada.

3rdThe Cubs name Joe Maddon as their new manager and give him a 5-year $25M contract.

The Twins name Paul Molitor as their new manager.

4thGold Glove Award winners are announced, with Yadier Molina winning his 7thconsecutive NL honor. The Braves, Rockies and Dodgers each have a pair of winners. The Royals and Orioles each have a trio of winners in the AL.

5thThe Astros obtain C Hank Conger from the Angels in exchange for P Nick Tropeano and C Carlos Perez. The Angels also sent P Mark Sappington to the Rays for P Cesar Ramos.

Dodger president Andrew Friedman hires Farhan Zaidi from Oakland to be his new General Manager.

The Miami Heraldreports that Alex Rodriguez admitted to federal prosecutors earlier this year on January 29ththat he used banned substances provided to him by Anthony Bosch from 2010 to 2012. Rodriguez paid $12,000 a month for the P.E.D.s.  This is at variance with several interviews and public statements by the Yankee star that he did not take drugs.

10th   The Mets sign free agent OF Michael Cuddyer to a 2-year contract worth $21M. He has turned down a one year offer from the Rockies for $15.3M.

Jose Abreu of the White Sox and Jacob deGrom of the Mets win the AL and NL Rookie of the Year Award for 2014. Abreu is a unanimous choice in the AL, while deGrom takes 26 of 30 first-place votes in the NL.

11th   Buck Showalter of the Orioles and Matt Williams of the Nats are named Manager of the Year in the AL and NL, respectively.

12th   Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Corey Kluber of the Indians are Cy Young Winners for 2014 in the NL and AL, respectively. It is Kershaw’s 3rdwin in the last 4 years.

The Yankees send C Francisco Cervelli to the Pirates in exchange for P Justin Wilson.

13th   The Tigers obtain OF Anthony Gose from the Blue Jays for 2B Devon Travis.

Mike Trout of the Angels and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers win the AL and NL MVP Awards for 2014. Trout is a unanimous winner after finishing 2ndto Miguel Cabrera in each of the last 2 years. Kershaw becomes the first pitcher to win the award since Bob Gibson in 1968.

14th   The Rays send P Jeremy Hellickson to the Diamondbacks for SS Andrew Velazquez and OF Justin Williams.

The Pirates sign free agent vet A.J. Burnett to a 1-year $8.5M deal. Burnett lost an ML-high 18 games last season with the Phillies, and declined a second year option in Philadelphia for $12.75M to return to Pittsburgh. Burnett spent 2012-13 with the Bucs.

A report from Kyodo says that the Hiroshima Carp are reluctant to post 26-year-old star pitcher Kenta Maeda after a disappointing season (11-9) by the righty.

15thIn Tokyo, the Major League All-star team is no-hit by Takahiro Norimoto and three relievers as Japan wins, 4-0, to take a three game to nothing lead in their 5-game series. Seattle’s Robinson Cano is hit on the toe in the 7thinning and suffers a fracture.

16th   The Cubs send P Arodys Vizcaino to the Braves for 2B Tommy La Stella. The Braves had originally traded Vizcaino to Chicago.

17th   The Braves new GM John Hart sends OF Jason Heyward and P Jordan Walden to the Cardinals in exchange for pitcher Shelby Miller and minor league P Tyrell Jenkins. Heyward is a free agent after the 2015 season. Miller has compiled a 26-18 record since September 2012.

The Marlins agree to terms on a record 13-year, $325 million contract with slugger Giancarlo Stanton. It is the most lucrative contract for an American athlete in history. Stanton’s season ended September 11 when he was hit in the face by a pitch.

The Blue Jays agree to terms on a 5-year $82M deal with free agent Russell Martin, who went to high school in Montreal. The catcher hit .290 last season after a career average of .255.

18thIn Sapporo, Japan, the Major League All-Stars beat Japan, 3-1, in the last game of their 5-game series. The U.S. won the final two games after Japan took the first three matches. Matt Shoemaker holds Japan to 2 hits in 5 scoreless innings for the win.

The Mets unveil their 2015 plans for new outfield fences, shortening the distances in right center field. The change comes after the team analyzes the balls hit at CitiField last season. Right field will change from 375’ to 370’, while right CF goes to 383’ to 380’.  Left field stays the same, though changes after 2011 brought those distances from 364’ to 358’ in LF and 384’ to 370’ in left CF.

Oakland signs long-time Royals slugger Billy Butler to a 3-year $30 million contract.

The White Sox sign lefty specialist  Zach Duke to a 3-year $15M contract.

20th   The Dodgers obtain pitchers Joel Peralta and Adam Liberatore from the Rays for pitchers Jose Dominguez and Greg Harris.

The Rangers release starter Miles Mikolas after the righty went 2-5/6.44 ERA for the season. Mikolas will star in Japan and end up signing a 2-year $15.5 million contract with the Cardinals after the 2017 season.

21stThe White Sox sign free agent 1B Adam LaRoche to a 2-year contract worth $25M. LaRoche drove in 22 runs in his final 21 games for the Nationals.

23rdOakland makes its second big signing in 5 days, acquiring Pirate 1B Ike Davis and international bonus slot 86 from Pittsburgh for international bonus slot 23. The Bucs acquired Davis on April 18.

25th   The Red Sox sign free agent 3B Pablo Sandoval to a 5-year deal and free agent SS Hanley Ramirez to a 4-year  $88M contract. Along with the $72.5M committed to Cuban OF Rusney Castillo, the Sox are on the hook for $255M for the three.

26thOver here but over paid? The Diamondback sign Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas to a 6-year contract worth $68.5M.  He’ll struggle in spring training, but hit .273 while playing 3B in 2015.

28th   The Royals send P Aaron Crow to the Marlins for pitchers Brian Flynn and Reid Redman.

The Athletics trade All-Star 3B Josh Donaldson to the Blue Jays for IF Franklin Barreto, 3B Brett Lawrie, and pitchers Sean Nolin and Kendal Graveman.
