Cleveland becomes the fifth team in ML history to have winning streaks of at least 14 games in back-to-back seasons. The last team to accomplish the feat was the Cubs in 1935 and 1936.
The Cubs edge the Pirates, 1-0, on Alex Avila’s broken bat RBI triple in the 9th. It is the catcher’s first triple since 2013.
The Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers, 3-1, to extend their winning streak to 13 games. This marks the first time in ML history that 2 teams have concurrent winning streaks of at least 13 games. The Dodgers’ run scores in the 1st inning, ending Arizona’s streak of 97 consecutive innings in which it never trailed. That total ties the 1947 Dodgers for the 2nd-longest such streak within one season since 1900. The Yankees went 100 innings without trailing in 1942.
The Giants crush the Rockies, 11-3. Joe Panik goes 5-for-6 for SF, including a pair of doubles. With 12 hits in the Giants series with Colorado, he ties the modern-era record for most hits in a 3-game series. Willie Keeler (1901), John Stone (1935) and Eric McNair (1939) last had a dozen hits. 12th The Twins crush the Padres, 16-0. Minnesota hits homers in each of the first 7 innings of the game to become the first ML team in history to accomplish the feat (Elias Sports Bureau). They also become the second team in history to have a pair of shutout wins by a margin of at least 16 runs twice in one calendar month, having beaten the Royals by a score of 17-0 less than two weeks ago.
Francisco Lindor hits a leadoff homer for Cleveland and that is all Corey Kluber needs as he wins, 2-0, over Detroit. It is the 20thwin in row for Tribe. During the streak, the Indians have a 104 run difference. Only 2 other clubs have had streaks that long over the past 100 years—the 2002 Athletics (20 games) and the 1935 Cubs (21 games).

20th The Yankees crush the Twins, 11-3. Aaron Judge drives in 3 runs for the Bombers, giving him 101 RBIs to go along with 119 runs scored for the year. He is the 9th player to produce 100 or more in both categories since RBIs became an official statistic in 1920.
The Red Sox shut out the Orioles, 9-0, behind Chris Sale. Coupled with the Angels’ loss to the Indians, it clinches a spot in the postseason for Boston. Sale fans 13 Baltimore batters to reach 300 K’s for the season, the 35th time a hurler has reached that plateau. Only two of the previous 34, however, did it while recording fewer walks than Sale’s 41—Curt Schilling (33 walks in 2002) and Pedro Martinez (37 walks in 1999).
